Beverly Jovais

Beverly is one of the top trainers in Northern California and runs her program, Chestnut Hill, at Beaumont Farms in Petaluma.  Her riders are consistently among the top ribbons, and frequent winners of year end awards.  Beverly excels at helping riders attain their goals and have fun in the process.

Beverly and her assistant trainers, John Wohr and Katy Hull, enjoy teaching everyone, from beginners to advanced riders. Chestnut Hill welcomes riders of all levels, and encourages those who love to ride but don't enjoy showing.

In 2010, Chestnut Hill riders won:
* champion and reserve in the NorCal 3' Medal Final,

and championships in the following NorCal year-end divisions:
*Pony Equitation
* Equitation 11 & Under
* Equitation 36 & Over
* Pre-Green Hunter
* Junior Hunter 16 - 17
* Adult Amateur 41+, and
* Small/Medium Pony.

Her students also won countless hunter and equitation championships at shows throughout the year. In 2009, Chestnut Hill riders won the Pickwick Medal Final, NorCal 3' Medal Final, and the CPHA Child/Adult Regional Medal Final. Beverly's proven approach stresses excellence built on classic basics, safety and fun.

Certified by the American Riding Instructor Certification Program, Beverly celebrates her 30th year as a professional trainer in 2011, and she recently added judging to her long resume.

Raised in Pennsylvania, Beverly started riding at the age of eight. Two years later, she began competing in the pony divisions and later moved on to the junior and adult hunter and equitation rings.  An avid competitor and student of the sport, Beverly's trainers included well known names such as Cynthia Hankins (junior equitation star and now judge), Jack Trainer (winner of numerous National Horse of the Year Awards, Master of Foxhounds and lifelong horseman), Debbie Shaffner (former member of the US Equestrian Team),  Major Jeremy Beale (former Olympic rider for Great Britain and USDF gold medalist) and Ben Guanciale (winner of numerous Zone and National year-end awards).

A former board member of the Northern California Hunter Jumper Association, Beverly has her "r" judges license.  "The USEF Learner Judges program was as rigorous, challenging and educational as college," says Beverly.  "There is nothing I love more than helping my clients attain their goals.  I know that judging will provide me a whole new perspective that will ultimately make me a better teacher, benefiting my riders and their horses."  Beverly plans to obtain her "R" judge's license within the next few years.

Beverly also offers one and two-day clinics at students' facilities. Beverly's clinics are geared to address the level and needs of the riders. With beginners, she returns to the core of her program - excellence through the application and practice of the classic basics. With advanced riders, Beverly works on polishing the subtleties that transform another competitor into a winner.

Married since 1983, Beverly and her husband reside in Marin County.  They are the parents of three daughters, each of whom has successfully competed on the "A" show circuit.

Katy Candy

Active in Northern California as a junior rider, Katy began her professional career in upstate New York. She joined one of California's most successful hunter-equitation operations in 1999, first providing training support for a family of private clients in Alaska, and later at the barn's two Northern California facilities.

At Chestnut Hill, Katy's natural talent is put to work at home riding, where her ability to develop each horse's unique strengths make them more ridable, and ultimately better able to perform. She is also a gifted instructor who derives great joy from seeing her students improve. When not in the show ring herself, Katy has great success preparing clients and their horses to bring home the ribbons.

John Wohr

Assistant trainer John Wohr joined Chestnut Hill in early 2011. A very accomplished and highly respected equestrian, he brings over 25 years of experience in all aspects of the sport.

Raised in Southern New Jersey, John began riding a the age of ten and was active as a youngster in 4-H. As a junior, he competed in the big Medal Finals at Harrisburg, the Maclay Finals in Madison Square Garden and the USET Talent Search in 1986 and 1987.

After turning professional, John learned from and worked for exceptional horsepeople, including such legendary names as George Morris, Jeff Cook, Frank Madden, Linda Hough, and Richard Spooner. John has extensive experience in all aspects of hunters and equitation and his clients have enjoyed success in all the rings, from Adult Amateur and Junior Hunters, to the medals, including the Maclay and USET.

However, John's true passion and expertise is in the jumper ring. He dedicates himself to every detail necessary for success; from a focused approach on the appropriate warm-up each day, to a detailed breakdown of riding the course at hand, to the complete training and preparation of a top level jumper. His clients have bested their competition in all jumper pursuits from the children's/Adult Amateurs through the Low and High Junior jumpers to Grand Prix.

Known for his professional, detailed and positive teaching style, John is also respected for his soft and patient style of riding. This combination has made him a successful competitor, but more importantly, very adept at training and preparing horses of any type for clients and the show ring. He thoroughly enjoys working with people and truly lives by the saying, "do what you love, and love what you do."
